ROOM OF THE WEEK: 5.5

I've got one thing to say about this kitchen...

Hardware. It's totally what sold me on it. The pop of brightly polished brass off that soft grey gets me every time! Oh, and yes the rest of the kitchen is divine as well - let's talk about it, shall we?

First off - the dark grout with the white subway tile. I'm not always a fan, but in this case I really love it. It keeps the room from being too glaringly white and adds graphic interest - but does it need to be all the way up every wall? Hmmm. The natural lighting is also heavenly - skylights in the kitchen are one of my favorite things! And how smart to mount the overhead lighting in there too. (Speaking over overhead lighting - that fixture about the dining table is freaking me out. No thank you.) The hood is perfection, the marble-topped island delicious, and the smattering of houseplants quite refreshing. I even spy a peek of a bar cart, which is always on my must-have list! All in all... I'd happily move right in!

Christodora Penthouse In New York By The Architect Lyn Rice

Christodora Penthouse was designed by Lyn Rice Architects, and is in New York According to the architects, the renovation of this apartment "involved to clarify and update the equipment and space for logic programming. The penthouse in the north, an area winter is a warm and intimate home organized around existing housing. Transitions in the Southern Zone was a loft, more designed to accommodate large gatherings and is accessible through a bar-wall thickening contains a wine storage bar while hiding the new service and storage areas that serve the formal dining room next door. As shown in the auditorium focuses more on the table Billyard. if this room has been specially designed with a modern and elegant. The wall was designed with gray panels that create a sense of luxury in the rooms and compliance with the kitchen section Billyard together to play like the atmosphere of a luxury hotel.

Landmark Kitchens

I feel like one would need to be a professional cook to be worthy of such a magnificent kitchen, but that doesn't stop the rest of us from dreaming! Landmark Kitchens was commissioned for the complete overhaul of the original Victorian cabinetry in this seaside home, in addition to the manufacture of new cabinets and redesign of the kitchen and dining area. A RECURRING THEME...

Not that I usually recommend one color palette for an entire home (unless you have a very small space to work with) but....



The mix of rich teal with pops of red has been one that just seems to stick with me! Yesterday I reported from my twitter that there is still a big surge of teal in the marketplace - we saw it in lots of leather goods in High Point - but my favorite way to use it is definitely as a base for the room - whether on the walls, cabinets or floors - with that pop of red and plenty of natural light so it doesn't feel too heavy. Do you think this a color scheme that's doable for your home?

Traditional Kitchens-New Idea

A five-burner gas cooktop highlights this kitchen's cooking zone. Custom birch cabinets with a buttercream finish and brown glaze provide subtle elegance to the space, and the diagonal entertainment center made with cherry wood matches the kitchen's island countertop.

Custom birch cabinetry from Plato Woodwork features a painted buttercream finish with a brown glaze. Egg-and-dart molding paired with 3-inch crown molding complements the cabinets’ inset doors with beaded face frames.

A dropped barrel vault ceiling and furniture-look cabinetry create a cozy feeling in this kitchen. Furniture details include the island’s legs, pilasters and bun feet, and integrated appliances with matching cabinet fronts.

White Shaker-style cabinets stacked to the ceiling flank a Wolf range with double ovens. Chrome bin pulls, beadboard wall panels, valance toe kicks and furniture legs on the island give this kitchen a traditional farmhouse feel.

Maple cabinets, painted cream with amber glaze, and matching columns at the range and dining bar, create a clean, classic look. A furniture-style alder island complements the earthy tones of the brown sucuri granite countertops and hardwood flooring.

One wall of the kitchen can be a combination hutch and beverage center. Glass-front upper cabinets provide the perfect backdrop for the glass-front wine chiller. Deep base drawers offer storage space for linens, dinnerware or special serving pieces.

Alternating upper cabinets with windows keeps this kitchen from feeling enclosed. A monochromatic, neutral color palette for countertops, floors and cabinets allows decorative items such as the Oriental rug to make a statement.

Large square stone tiles grace the kitchen floor while 4-inch wall tiles in light brown, tan and cream complement the dark brown countertops and white, raised-panel cabinets. A small peninsula adds workspace and defines the eating and cooking areas.

A little bit traditional: White raised-panel cabinets with beaded face frames and glass insets, contrasted by an antiqued and distressed island in a dark finish. A little bit Tuscan: Terra cotta floors, hand-forged wrought-iron corbels, and a hand-painted mural inset behind the cooktop.

Modern Kitchen Design

The dark wood finish is beautifully balanced with light reflective surfaces in this modern kitchen design. Very chic, low-backed stools take their rightful position at the eating end of the long island.

The natural light pours into this very contemporary kitchen. White, a color often associated with contemporary design, is used throughout the space creating a very light and airy atmosphere. Two layers of horizontal upper cabinets and large, deep drawers provide an abundance of storage. The orange-red color pops against the white shell.

Storage will never be an issue with the large cabinets in this modern kitchen. The island provides even more storage and workspace along with a table-type extension for an eating area. An interesting feature of this design is that the toe-kick has been eliminated from some of the wall cabinets giving them a floating feeling.

Something you are going to see more and more often in modern design is wood cabinetry presented with the grain running horizontally as opposed to the traditional vertical direction. The cabinets in this contemporary kitchen design picture have a mottled finish with dark brown and grey tones. The grey tones are further enhanced through the use of stainless appliances.

Here is an interesting color combination - pale yellow cabinets with a dark chocolate brown for the countertop material. The frosted glass doors break up what would otherwise be a bland expanse of upper cupboards. The area above the glass doors is a great niche for displaying special items and highlighting them with the recessed lights above.

Is this modern kitchen from the 60's, or the new millennium? The clean lines, smooth surfaces and simplistic quality are what create the modern feel in this design. The only giveaways to the real period of the design are the stainless steel appliances, the new rangehood and the microwave oven.

This is a cutting edge kitchen design. The space is practically void of color with the exception of some fresh fruit in a stainless steel bowl and a small assortment of cooking accessories.

A hot design in cool colors. If time travel was possible, you might be looking at a kitchen from 20 years in the future. An abundance of horizontal lines create a sense of movement within this space.

Sea Meets Sky

If I hadn't discovered these photos via Colorado Homes & Lifestyles, I would have sworn the house was in New England! For good reason though, as the owners lived in Massachusetts for many years before moving to Denver. Interior Nan Procknow and architect Don Ruggles worked to execute their vision of a new home inspired by their summers spent on the coast. I love the soft blue and green color scheme throughout the home. The glass tiles on the backsplash are gorgeous! Don't miss the rest of the home here!
